Built in 1912, this magnificent hotel boasts a guestlist peppered with the names of famous people. It served as the residence of that World War II charismatic figure, General Douglas MacArthur. The MacArthur suite remains largely unchanged, as does most of the old wing. Canopied beds, wide corridors, muted carpeting and old-fashioned textured walls create a strong sense of history. The spacious reception area with its grand columns and chandeliers has been called one of the world’s most beautiful hotel lobbies.
